Support Us

Chesapeake Search Dogs is an all-volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Being an all-volunteer organization, our members donate time and money to support the training of themselves and their canine. In addition to the direct costs of gear, supplies, and classes, each member logs thousands of miles on their personal vehicles in travel to trainings and search deployments for lost or missing persons throughout the Chesapeake Bay region and southern Pennsylvania.  Chesapeake Search Dogs relies upon contributions from individuals, businesses, groups and organizations to provide for critical equipment and operational costs.

Chesapeake Search Dogs is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Maryland and subsists solely on the generosity of our benefactors. No salaries or wages are paid. This includes board members, management, handlers, and support personnel. All of our funding comes from private donations and grants.

All donations are tax deductible. 100% of every dollar goes directly to the expenses of meeting our mission of finding the lost and missing. Donations help us with:

  • Veterinary supplies
We provide annual wellness exams for our dogs as well as treat their injuries in the field. Donations help with our expenses with veterinary services, medications, lab tests, and vaccines.
  • Assisting dog handlers
Our members carry a significant load. Beyond the expense of responding to a search, our handlers must prepare themselves and their dogs at a significant cost of both time and money. It costs a handler an average of $4,500 of their own personal funds to field themselves and their dog. Many of our handlers average 100 miles round trip weekly just to attend our weekly training.
  • Communication & safety equipment
We have a variety of expenses in buying and maintaining our equipment such as radios, batteries, battery chargers, etc.
  • Response vehicle & trailer maintenance
We have a trailer that we use in response to searches that requires ongoing maintenance.
